Ahasae Tharu's commitment to DE&I
Canada is a diverse country. Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area, where we are based, is even more so.
- We are committed to using language and culture to normalize diversity within our books.
- We do not discriminate when choosing who we work with—editors, illustrators, ARC & Beta readers, and sensitivity readers—on the basis of origin, or personal and religious preference.
- See Acknowledgements page for a list of contributors.
Examples of our commitment to diversity are calling the mother 'Amma' while illustrating our every-day reality.
Ahasae Tharu's commitment to Sustainability
We hope to be able to fill this space in the near future with our intentions to give back to community.
Publishing our books through IngramSpark necessitates a destroy on return policy. We hope customers of our books will choose to instead pass-it-along or donate used books to charity.
For books sold on consignment: We commit to picking up unsold books and reusing them for in person sales or donation.
Ahasae Tharu's AI Use Policy
Our policy is built on the belief that AI should be a tool for enhancement, not a replacement for human creativity and professional judgement.
External Submissions and Deliverables
To maintain the authenticity and original integrity of our brand, we do not accept AI-generated content. This includes, but is not limited to any form of written content such as fiction, non-fiction, articles, and blog posts; visual art in the form of illustrations, photography, and graphic designs created entirely by generative AI.
Internal Operational Use
While final products must be human-centric, we occasionally use specific AI-enhanced tools to support internal workflows and marketing endeavours.
- We use AI-powered software (e.g. Grammarly) to assist with grammar, syntax, and clarity in human-written work for editing & quality assurance. This is done without changing the voice of our BIPOC authors and in collaboration with IRL editors and copy editors.
- We reserve the right to use AI-integrated design tools (e.g. Adobe Firefly, Canva AI) for occasional marketing materials such as promotional imagery. As a fledgeling company, this has been unavoidable. However, as we grow, we hope to employ more artists and illustrators.
- AI is sometimes used as a brainstorming partner for marketing concepts, campaign structures, and strategy development. However, to date—we have yet to 'copy-paste' a campaign without vigorous human revisions applied. In our humble opinion, AI can't replace the nuance, context, and social-behavioural-environmental connections made by a human mind.
